The 3 Lions: A Short Story on Strategic Thinking
Some hunt their whole lives and still go hungry. Others find the water… and food comes to them.
The old Lion King summoned his three sons and said:
“A drought is coming.
In three days, whoever can secure food for the pride for the longest time will be my successor.”
The First Lion rushed into the forest and hunted nonstop.
After three days, he returned with piles of meat.

“This is enough to feed the pride for one month!”
The Second Lion did not hunt right away.
He expanded the territory, chased away the hyenas, and claimed more land.
“More land means more hunting opportunities!”
The Youngest Lion returned empty-handed.
No prey. No wounds.
The King asked: “What did you do?”
The youngest replied calmly: “I didn’t hunt. I didn’t expand our land.
I searched for the source of the last underground stream still flowing… and cleared the rocks to guide the water closer to our den.
When the drought reaches its peak, every animal in the forest will be forced to come here to survive.

And then… food will come to us.”
The Lion King placed the crown on the youngest son.
– Meat eventually rots.
– Vast territory becomes a burden during hardship.
– Only the source of water decides everything.
The Lesson
– Being busy does not mean being sustainable.
– Expanding without controlling the core resource only exhausts you.

– Wise people don’t chase goals. They control the bottleneck, and let the goals come to them.
In nature:
Water → Grass → Herbivores → Lions
Control the water, and you control the entire system.
Your turn:
If it were you, would you choose to:
– Hunt more?
– Or find the true “source of water” in your life?
