Princess Leonor: Meet the Future Queen of Spain
Princess Leonor was born on October 31, 2005, and became heir apparent when her father, King Felipe VI, ascended the throne in 2014. From that moment, her upbringing has followed a carefully structured path designed for a future constitutional monarch in Spain.
Her education combines modern academics with royal tradition. She studied at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales, where she completed the International Baccalaureate, and has been trained in constitutional law, international relations, and diplomacy. Princess Leonor speaks Spanish as her mother tongue and is fluent in English and French, with additional language exposure as part of her international and military preparation.
If she ascends the throne as expected, Princess Leonor will become Spain’s first reigning queen since Queen Isabella II, who ruled in the 19th century. Her eventual reign would mark a generational shift for the Spanish monarchy, blending centuries-old tradition with a modern, globally educated leader.
