Captain Sully’s Heroic Miracle on the Hudson Landing
On January 15, 2009, something incredible happened in New York City. A plane called US Airways Flight 1549 had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport when it ran into a flock of geese. The birds damaged both engines, causing them to stop working. Suddenly, the plane began losing power and could not continue flying safely.

The pilot, Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, remained calm during this dangerous moment. He quickly looked at all the possible options and realized the plane could not return to the airport or reach another runway in time. With only seconds to decide, he chose the safest choice — landing the plane on the Hudson River.
Sully carefully lowered the plane and made a smooth landing on the water. The flight crew immediately helped passengers exit the aircraft safely. Emergency teams arrived quickly to assist. Thanks to the pilot’s experience and the crew’s teamwork, all 155 people on board survived, with only a few minor injuries.
People around the world praised Sully for his quick thinking and bravery. The event became famous as the “Miracle on the Hudson.” Later, Sully shared his story in a book, and a movie called Sully was made, showing how staying calm can save lives in an emergency.
